"Whether we realize it or not, it is our woundedness, or how we cope with it, that dictates much of our behavior, shapes our social habits, and informs our way of thinking about the world." Gabor Mate
"So take seriously the story that God has given you to live. It's time to read your own life because your story is the one that could set us all ablaze." Dan Allender
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do."
Brené Brown
Welcome, I'm Sydney Sykes
I believe it is the wise and courageous person who pursues therapy. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but of strength—an act of bravery that acknowledges the longing for healing, growth, hope, and transformation. When we have a safe space to explore our stories with a compassionate guide, relief, and hope emerge in ways we never imagined possible.
As a therapist trained under Dr. Dan Allender and Dr. Larry Crabb, I have dedicated my life’s work to helping people engage their stories in ways they may never have before—discovering the hidden patterns, wounds, and beliefs that shape their lives. I have done some deep dives into other modalities that allow me to draw from a plethora of sources to offer what seems best for each unique person.
There is no one size fits all, and no one session is ever the same as another.
This work is not about blaming or getting stuck in a victim's role; it’s about identifying, understanding, and naming our realities to find clarity, healing, and freedom.
It is truly powerful and awesome work. I too continue to learn and grow alongside my clients as I listen and am impacted by their stories and bravery.
Research shows that nearly 80% of our current interactions and responses are influenced by our past. By identifying and naming these patterns with honesty and compassion, we create a path toward real change—one that leads to greater freedom, connection, and restoration.
For over 20 years, I have walked alongside individuals, couples, and families as they navigate the complexities of life and relationships. I work with a wide range of issues, including grief and loss, anxiety, depression, marriage and family struggles, spirituality and faith, loneliness, infertility, and myriad relational challenges. No matter what brings you to therapy, you don’t have to face it alone.
I am fiercely committed to walking alongside you with curiosity, compassion, and care—without judgment. It is my privilege and honor to sit with people in the hardest, most vulnerable places and to witness the profound courage it takes to do this work. Truly, it is one of the great joys of my life.
Witnessing others find freedom and healing on a weekly basis is a gift, and I can think of almost nothing else sweeter to experience!
Finding the right therapist is an essential part of the healing process. Therapy is most effective when you feel safe, seen, and understood. The therapeutic relationship is built on trust, and it’s important that you find someone with whom you can do this deep work. With great care and gratitude, I will consider it a privilege to walk with you and hold space for you if we are a good fit. If not, I fully support you in finding the right person who can provide the safety and connection needed for your healing journey.
Because healing is never one-size-fits-all, I integrate a range of therapeutic modalities, including:
Internal Family Systems (IFS): Understanding and healing the different parts of yourself.
Psychoanalytic Therapy: Exploring deep-seated patterns and unconscious influences.
Relational Life Therapy (RLT): Strengthening relationships and breaking dysfunctional cycles.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT): Cultivating psychological flexibility and resilience.
Ideal Parent Protocol (IPP): Rewiring attachment wounds with new, healing experiences.
Somatic Work: Connecting with your body's wisdom to release stored trauma.
Neuroscience-Based Approaches: Using brain science and tools to support lasting transformation.
Self-Compassion Practices: Developing a kinder, more understanding relationship with yourself.
I offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and intensive work for those seeking focused healing in a condensed time frame (20 hours within 5-8 weeks). My intensive sessions, designed for those wanting to dive into their work more deeply in a shorter period of time, are available outside of my normal business hours at a different rate.
You don’t have to do this alone. We are created for connection and to grow in the presence of others.
