"Whatever it is that wants to live within you - whatever is sleeping and perhaps has been sleeping since childhood -can awaken through the slow and steady work with a wise therapist."

HEALING. HOPE. GROWTH. RESTORATION. FREEDOM.
Sydney C. Sykes is a Licensed Professional Counselor who sees individuals ages 18 and older. She is fiercely committed to encouraging individuals and couples and to helping others move toward healing, hope, growth, restoration, and freedom.
Sydney's graduate work was under Dr. Dan Allender and the late Dr. Larry Crabb, respected therapists, authors, and speakers. From this perspective, she steps with you into your story and helps individuals unpack and learn from their narrative in a way that many have never done.
She invites clients into a fuller and richer present and future. Sydney also has training in Relational Life Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Ideal Perfect Nurturer, and has done intensive work around retraining the brain and neuroplasticity.
In private practice for over 20 years, Sydney has worked with issues including anxiety, depression, stress, shame, trauma, grief and loss, self-worth, sexual abuse, spirituality, relational issues, and marriage.
Sydney considers walking alongside individuals and families as they pursue growth and change to be an honor and a privilege.

HOURS: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until 3:00 p.m. Current practice rates are $180 per 50-minute session when paying by check, cash, or private Venmo. Marriage counseling is $220. There is an additional charge if paid by PayPal.
Emergency sessions outside of normal appointment times are billed at a different rate.
We offer some intensive programs (with more frequent and longer sessions condensed into a shorter time period) at a different price. They are outside of my normal hours as well and can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Sydney is not on any insurance panels, and therefore, clients must self-pay and can submit a Superbill to one's provider for out-of-network reimbursement. An invoice with all the necessary information is provided. If you are billing your insurance company, a diagnosis code is necessary for reimbursement and can be provided.
Some words from Sydney....
Beginning counseling often requires great courage, and many misconceptions still exist. Some people may believe that counseling implies weakness, while others are afraid of being vulnerable and sharing personal experiences. It could be that you are uncertain about what a counseling experience looks like.
It is not uncommon for things to be confusing and overwhelming when we try to deal with them alone. Often, simply thinking issues through with another trusted individual can bring insight and encouragement. I believe that the way we deal with our hurt and problems will determine the course of the rest of our lives. Our choice to grow and learn not only impacts us in powerful ways but will also positively impact all those around us, potentially breaking generational patterns.
I believe it is the wise and courageous person who pursues therapy. Acknowledging that we are struggling and being willing to name your reality with another takes great strength and is the beginning of a path toward growth and healing.
I strive to make the counseling experience as comfortable as possible. Most people express feeling lighter and having hope again after opening up and being heard and understood. There is no judgment in what I do. I sit across from each client as a compassionate witness with genuine humility, gratitude, and the belief that none of us is immune to struggle. We live in a broken and hurting world, but change, growth, and healing are more than possible.
Counseling is ideally meant to be a safe place where you can be heard, pursued with thoughtful questions, encouraged, and challenged in a helpful and positive direction. Healing is realistic and possible. There may be some painful and difficult parts of the journey, but the hard work is always worth it. We will discuss and process your story, and you will be provided with practical and helpful tools to utilize in your present circumstances.
Helping clients find their voice and core identity has been incredible to witness, and seeing individuals blossom into the fullness of who they are meant to be as they move through counseling is a gift.
I am excited to provide traditional talk therapy combined with the latest research-based techniques around neuroplasticity, trauma, somatic interventions, relational work, IFS; and self-compassion.
The research has shown that applying these tools is associated with psychological well-being (including less anxiety, depression, and stress) and more positive states of mind (such as joy, optimism, and life satisfaction). It is also associated with increased motivation, healthy behaviors, immune functioning, positive body image, and resilient coping, as well as more caring and compassionate relationship behavior.
My hope is that these thoughts help you in making your decision concerning therapy. I strive to offer you excellence in every way, and I am passionate about what I do. Hopefully, you take the risk and follow your inclination to begin therapy, find just the right counselor for you, and go the distance with this journey in order to find greater depth, freedom, and joy in your life.
